Hot, humid weather is typical in Japan in July, August, and the first part of September.
Typical. What was not typical at least here in Fukuoka was the lack of a pronounced monsoon season in June and the lack of cloudy days from the beginning of august to the end of September making the days feel hotter than normal.
Normally we go Monsoon –> cloudless and hot/humid(atsui ne… season) –> cloudy and hot/humid(typhoon season) –> Fall.
This year was cloudless and hot/humid(atsui ne… season) –> Fall.
This past summer broke records and hopefully is not typical of the future. I’m Okinawa we generally get a few days of respite every few weeks, but instead every day was 3-5 degrees C above the normal temperature.
Typical
Pretty typical here in Tokyo, with the exception of the frequent thunderstorms, never in 19 years have I seen anywhere near what we got over a few weeks much less all summer.
