whos she think is keeping china from building a base there ?
Japanese right-wing Twitter is going full five stages of grief over this and it’s glorious.
People in Okinawa is smart
The only way to get votes in oki is being anti base
I get the whole anti-base sentiment, but if the base actually moved away, many local Okinawa residents would get hit hard on the wallet. Whether local shop owners, small businesses and locals working for the base. Okinawa already has the highest unemployment rate in Japan.
Come to think of it, why is his name not “Tamagusuku”, being in Okinawa and all?
realistically, the base isn’t going anywhere. The only people that really hate the base are old grumpy Japanese people and guess which demographic votes the most in this country? It is terrible that many incidents are caused by personnel from the base, but the reality is that Tokyo wants that base to stay, so it will stay. Especially with the concern that WW3 seems to be more and more likely with every passing day, Japan really doesn’t want to leave that area defenseless. I’m sure Tamaki will throw his rhetoric around, but he knows the actual reality of his situation and not try to do anything substantial
