Anyone had your successor decline at the last minute and asked to stay?

I was looking for a new job here in Japan since I was getting cold feet about leaving. Today my JTE told me the new JET declined her position, and now I'm wondering if I should just ask to stay. Has anyone had this happen before, or heard of it?
