Dragon Dia (Dragon Gate), Ryusuke Taguchi, Shota Umino def Tiger Mask, Tomoaki Honma, Yuji Nagata — (7:30, Deathrider)
BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, Yota Tsuji def Francesco Akira, Callum Newman, Jeff Cobb — (7:24, like a standing figure four but with Hiromu’s arms instead of legs, slammed into a sitting one… idk)
In his backstage comments, Hiromu Takahashi challenges Mistico to a match at King of Pro-Wrestling on 10/14.
Also backstage, Shota Umino challenges Callum Newman to a rematch of their G1 clash. Callum accepts and names Royal Quest IV as the place.
Final backstage news from this match: Cobb and Tsuji decide on their TV title re-match for the KOPW show, but a returning Ren Narita attacks them both. Three-way appears to be back on.
Hirooki Goto’s music hits for the next match, but Gabe Kidd comes out instead. Gabe brings the cameraman backstage to reveal he’s already attacked Goto. They brawl to the ring.
Hirooki Goto vs Gabe Kidd — (Double Count Out, 1:44)
Gabe takes the mic and asks for the match to be re-started as No DQ.
Hirooki Goto def Gabe Kidd — (8:24, GTR)
Zack and Fujita come out to the TMDK music. They wait on the ramp and Zack cues the music of the newest member of the faction; “The Grip” Ryohei Oiwa (the nickname fits the theming of TMDK; it’s basically the “proper” term for a “Roadie,” so Oiwa’s the technical set-up guy of the group).
Ryohei Oiwa, Kosei Fujita, Zack Sabre Jr. def TAKA Michinoku, Taichi, SANADA — (6:30, The Grip [a discus lariat])
Taichi lingers a bit while TMDK celebrate. In his “I am explicitly telling you what the story is because I already know it” voice, Chris Charlton says maybe Taichi is jealous that Zack recruited Oiwa before J5G could. With the same voice he also says that we might see all of TMDK with gold by the end of the year.
NEVER 6-Man Tag titles match:
Boltin Oleg, Toru Yano, Hiroshi Tanahashi (c) def SHO, Yujiro Takahashi, EVIL (w/Dick Togo) — (11:10, High Fly Flow)In the closing moments of the match Ren Narita makes his on-screen return and doles out push-up bar shots, but the HoT momentum is negated by a returning El Phantasmo (with a new haircut). Jado also pops up at ringside.
Post-match, Tanahashi welcomes ELP “home” to New Japan; Chris Charlton confirms ELP is now officially in Hontai. We get the first Tanahashi air guitar concert in a long while.
Junior Heavyweight title match: DOUKI (c) (walked to the ring by Taichi & SANADA) def Yoshinobu Kanemaru (w/mid-match SHO interference) — (20:08, Suplex de la Luna)
Post-match SHO steals the title and declares he’s next in line. Threatens to destroy the belt with his wrench if DOUKI doesn’t accept. DOUKI talks down to SHO, but since he’s lost to SHO twice before, he accepts the challenge. SHO gives the belt back to DOUKI as a ploy to attack him with the wrench, Taichi and SANADA come back out to chase SHO off.
NEVER Openweight title match: Shingo Takagi def HENARE (c) — (19:23, Last of the Dragon)
Global Heavyweight title match: David Finlay (c) (w/Gedo) def YOSHI-HASHI (w/Hirooki Goto) — (21:38, Overkill)
Post-match Finlay taunts Goto, but leaves the ring before anything can happen. In his backstage comments, Finlay does confirm that Goto is his next challenger and says that he wants Goto to bring his kids to the show so Finlay can destroy him in front of them.
IWGP World Heavyweight title match: Tetsuya Naito (c) def Great-O-Khan — (30:54, Destino)
ZSJ comes out with the G1 trophy. It’s now confirmed that his IWGP WHC title shot at KOPW will be against Naito. In Japanese, Zack talks a little smack about that match.
Shingo Takagi comes out. Tells them both to wait a minute. He congratulates Naito, then says he wants to challenge the winner of Naito vs ZSJ.
Ryohei Oiwa joins them. Says his first act as part of TMDK is to challenge Shingo for the NEVER title. Takagi says the match is on for KOPW in Ryogoku.
Naito says that if he beats Zack in Ryogoku, he will name his next challenger; but we’ll have to be tranquilo and wait to see who that will be. He ends the show with the LIJ roll call.
