Just need a straight answer re: declaring prozac/fluoxetine

Hello!

I am so sorry to ask this. I have looked at all the information and just need a straight answer from recent travellers about whether or not you declared less than 1 month supply of fluoxetine when you entered Japan. I am an Australian travelling to Japan very soon. I take 20mg of fluoxetine a day. I have confirmation from the Japanese Bureau of Health and Welfare that I don’t require paperwork for that amount of fluoxetine. I asked them if I need to declare it and they said that they could not confirm, and sent me the email for customs. Customs have said if it’s psychotropic I need to declare it under prohibited items – however, fluoxetine does not appear on that 9 page list of psychotropic/narcotic meds. I assume therefore that I do not need to declare it under prohibited items. However, the email from customs went on to say that I should declare it under restricted items since medication is generally restricted in Japan. But this seems contradictory to both the customs form itself and to advice I have seen online. I have a letter from my doctor, and will get a printed version of my prescription from the pharmacy, and will bring it in its labelled box.

Question for anyone else who takes Prozac and has been to Japan recently: did you declare it? If no, did you have any issues? If yes, did you get checked at customs and was a prescription/doctor’s note enough? Unfortunately I have OCD so sitting with the uncertainty of what to do/what will happen is a really bad time.

Thanks in advance love you!
