I was wondering if anyone has some experience with beginner American college Japanese courses, (such as 111, 112) and can recall how much is covered in them.
I’ve already learned a bit of Japanese on my own but now I’m starting to take Japanese at college. I’d like to know if its worth doing a test to test out of the beginner courses, since I’ve already learned basic grammar and vocab, the kana, and a chunk of kanji.

During my first college Japanese class, we covered half of Genki I and finished it in the next semester’s class. I’m sure other colleges are different though.
How many credits is the course you are trying to test out of? If it is only 3 credits, then it does not cover much.
Both 100 classes at my school covered half of Genki. So an entire school year was dedicated to 1 book of Genki. The 200 classes were the same but with Genki 2. I would buy those books to get a headstart 🙂
