# Extreme Weather Warning – Super Typhoon Nanmadol
Japanese Meteorological Agency has issued Level 4 Extreme Weather Warning for Kagoshima prefecture and parts of Miyazaki and Kumamoto prefectures due to expected impact of Super Typhoon Nanmadol. It’s been the first time this level warning has been issued for any area other than Okinawa.
Super Typhoon Nanmadol continues to track towards southern Kyushu with the expectations of making or coming close to a landfall in the evening or night of Sunday, September 18th. Current tracking models expect to land near Makurazaki, Kagoshima (JMA) or on Shimabara Peninsula, Nagasaki (JWTC) with expectation of sustained winds exceeding 120 mph with torrential rains, extreme storm surges, landslides and flash floods expected to affect Kyushu, Shikoku, western and central Japan. **Widespread transportation disruptions and flight cancellations are extremely likely.**
## Transport
JR Kyushu is suspending most services on September 18th, including all the limited express and shinkansen trains between Kagoshima-Chuo and Kumamoto from the morning and shinkansen service between Kumamoto and Hakata station from around midday and no services will connect to Sanyo shinkansen (this includes cancellation of all Mizuho and Sakura trains between Shin-Osaka and Hakata from midday on Sunday).
JR West expects shinkansen services to be affected cancelled in the next few days, including Sanyo shinkansen services starting on Sunday afternoon and Hokuriku shinkansen services starting on Monday evening. The conventional service on JR lines are expected to be suspended from Sunday, 21:00 JST on lines in Yamaguchi prefecture and possibly on most of the other lines starting Monday morning.
Fukuoka Airport expects all domestic and international flights expected to arrive or depart after mid-afternoon of Sunday, September 18th to be cancelled. Note that railway and air services in most of Japan are expected to be heavily affected at least from Monday, September 19th through Wednesday, September 21st.
**Please stay safe in place or evacuate to a safe place during the typhoon, check for the local weather warnings and heed the advice of the local authorities.**
*Note from moderators: If your flight is scheduled to leave from Narita Airport on September 20th or September 21st – you may want to book a hotel in the area. In the past in the situations, where the airport was operating, but not reachable from Tokyo area (eg. after Typhoon Hagibis) – airlines refused to refund the tickets.*
*If you are coming to Japan in late September or October – please check that all locations you want to visit are open and reachable – some are bound to be closed for weeks or months after passing of the typhoon due to the inflicted damage.*
