17 days April trip Itinerary

Heya! I’m planning to go Japan solo in April, wanted to run through this brief list with the folks on this subreddit, to get some inputs that might help me to explore places that I’ve not thought of going yet.

* 6th April 13:15- touchdown in Osaka
* check in and roam around (no detailed plan yet)
* 7th April – Kyoto
* go to the zen temples, eat some mochi sweets, chill and enjoy the hanami atmosphere
* 8th April – Kyoto
* might go places that i’ve been to before, e.g. fushimi inari, kyomizu-dera
* maruyama park to enjoy hanami once more
* 9th April – head down to meet a friend living in Kyushu
* 10th April – might explore around Kyushu, no definite plan on what I would want to do yet.
* 11th April to 16th April – I’ve still not set my mind on what i want to explore yet.
* 17th or 18th or 19th April – I seriously hope Kamikochi is open, I’ve looked online and I’m confused whether it officially opens on 17th or not. If it isn’t, I might just enjoy my last week in Tokyo instead
* 22nd April – Flying off from Tokyo NRT 4pm

I know this list isn’t detailed, but I’ve been a solo traveller who sees how it goes and work along with it. I wanted to be able to see both sakura season and go to Kamikochi, but I’m not sure whether this would work. Seeking inputs from veterans on whether Kamikochi is worth the effort going, or I should spend the time going somewhere else instead.

  1. 8th April might be too late for Maruyama Park. It’s more likely to be peak blooming season around Mt. Yoshino or *yaezakura* at Ninna-ji, Kyoto Botanical Gardens or Kyoto Imperial Palace.

    Kamikochi will not open sooner than April 17th to avoid the clash with Takayama Spring Festival. It may in some years open later if there was late or excess winter avelanche damage.
