WH or engeener visa for me ( IT)

Hello peoples,

I plan to go to japan next year, and i will turn 30 in june, so it’s my last year to get a working holliday visa for there. My project is to stay 2 years and see how it goes. Ideally at the start i would like to work part time, to spend the other part in a language school to get quickly a good. I would go to tokyo, because the job opportunities and to join a friend of mine.

My question is should i go with a working holiday visa, or an other one? What are the pros and con? Taxes, papers, opportunities, …

Also, what salary should i ask for a permanent position as a sysadmin/engineer/devops in tokyo ?

For my profil, i am french, english bilingual, and know a bit japanese ( can have little conversations, enough for living alone, something between n4-n3. I understand also german. ). I went to japan in 2017 for 3 weeks, and back again in 2018 for 2 month with one month in a language school, i was staying near nagoya. I am an IT engineer ( networks and systems), and will have 8 years of experience at the start of my departure).

Regards,

Mathew

  1. Just get a job before you go? With 8 years of experience you should be fine landing a position even if you can’t speak Japanese.

  2. If you plan to stay and work long term, don’t bother with the WHV. Just start applying and try to get hired and get a working visa.
