  1. I don’t get the issue with weed. Hard drugs yes but not weed. Besides, Roppongi is a river of cocaine and no one cares about that

  2. Since it is illegal, this guy is an absolute moron. Customs scrutinize arrivals from Thailand pretty carefully, too. He’s going to find out that Japanese prison is no joke and he’ll learn Japanese very quickly. I agree it shouldn’t be illegal but each society needs to decide that on their own. Not too long ago, it was illegal in most US states, where I happen to be from. I have been here a long time so it’s weird to think how different things are.

  3. Came from a country that legalized weed and the number of cars running lights and colliding with pedestrians skyrocketed, because everyone is driving high as a kite, convinced that science be damned, they’re the one special person who isn’t affected by it.

You can’t walk outside a mall entrance, sports arena, or many restaurants in the evening without getting a lungfull of secondhand cannabis smoke. My cousin works a service job and is sick of dealing with people stoned out of their mind who take 20 minutes to order, changing it three times, because they can’t think straight.

Japan is right to not want to dip their toe into this cesspool of stupidity. By all means, extract the active medicinal ingredients and make them available to anyone experiencing chronic pain. You don’t need THC for that.

And before people “whaddabout alcohol”, yes, it also causes a lot of problems, and Japan in particular is dealing with them more than some other places. Adding another addictive substance isn’t going to stamp out the first one.

  4. It wasn’t until the end of ww2 that japan made pot illegal and controlled. I agree with people that alcohol is much more damaging than smokin weed. If they legalized it, would alleviate criminal detention costs, tax it for legal sales and distribution. I doubt that it would take off as much as some countries due to the stigma of it.
