My wife told me today that our electricity bill cost 5万円 this month. That totally blew my mind. I don’t think I’ve had a bill nearly that high up until this point, but I’m really not surprised My Mother-in-law, wife, 2 year old son, 8 month old son, and I live in a 64 m2 apartment in Saitama, and we have two ACs. The one in the living room is set to 26C, and is on maybe a few hours a day. The one in my office is set to 21C, and is on 24/7. Obviously the AC in my office is the culprit, but to see the energy bill nearly double over the course of a couple months is disheartening.

Jokes aside. 170sm apartment in tokyo air con is on 24 / 7 with 3 aquariums and a trading desk with 6 screens. My average is 12000-15000 yen across all seasons.
Dude . Put your AC in your office at 26, and only when your are working .

Something is off. I have a piece of property that has 3 ACs running 24/7 constantly at 27C and my electric bill is rarely over ¥20,000. I have extended family living there, 3 people. This is a house and not an apartment.
Are you mining crypto? My extended family are elderly and middle aged so they’re mostly home all the time so you *must* be doing something to rack up that massive bill. How many kWh are you using? Like a 1000kwh?

That seems insane to me. We have two aircons we use most of the day and the one in the bedroom for part of the night in the summer/winter and I don’t think we’ve ever paid more than like 1万円. Definitely no more than ¥15,000. Maybe our rooms are a lot smaller than yours but still. Why is the office one on 24/7 though? Is it also your bedroom? You don’t have air conditioning in the bedrooms?
Edit: we keep the temperature at 25-28 in the summer. Any lower and the air feels quite freezing imo.
Are you sure that’s JUST the electricity? Some people bundle things together so it could be the electric, gas, internet, etc all together.
That’s crazy. I pay around ¥10k/month. 350m2, kitchen is electric. But I only use the air con on really insufferable days, usually I can open the windows and there’s a nice breeze going through the house.
I have two aircons going 24/7 (21C, 24C) and one going occasionally (24C), plus a decent amount of computing hardware. An expensive month for me is 35k.
Is your water heated by electric or gas? If electric, check for leaks.
The last 2 bills have been around 13000, just under 400kWh. Have 5 A/C units but only 0-3 will be on at once.
Similar specs, though we have our 2 ACs at 27.

AC doesn’t seem to make that big a difference, it’s drying things in the shower room that makes the bill shoot up.
I’d check that someone isn’t siphoning off your electricity to operate a hydroponic dope-growing operation.
What provider are you using your much kWh you use?
My worst bills are usually around 40k including both gas and electricity usually in winter but it’s mostly because my wife mother use heating a lot.
My August bill was 21k for 700kwh this year.

There are tiered rates AFAIK, i.e. if you exceed a certain usage you start to get billed at a higher rate.
I’d cut back on the 24/7 21C Air conditioner.
