Anyone else have some obnoxious ojiisan stories they want to share? I swear Japan has a special breed of crazy old men. There's a new guy at my English club who is being really obnoxious and last night really took the cake so I wanted to share because I'm still mad. His behavior seems unfortunately common.
Anyway, some German tour group came to my super rural town to enjoy some small town sightseeing. Last night was an enkai and the local English club among others was invited, so that includes me. Generally speaking everyone there was older, a room full of grey haired folks plus myself, three younger guys, and two local students (7th and 5th graders). As soon as I arrive the obnoxious ojiisan from English club is trying to talk to me, telling me how these tourists must be rich, asking if they can speak English, yelling my name to get my attention when I'm talking to other people. stuff like that. I was asked to sit with the studnets so we find a place to sit with some tourists and of course Mr. Obnoxious follows me and sits with us. Now first of all he's being obnoxious like interrupting me when I'm talking to the tourists, saying things like "hey German people" and "enkai is party? No, it's BIG party, celebration party" over and over again while I was trying to have a conversation with our guests, plus waving his empty beer can around so someone would refill it. Then he started harassing the students saying they should talk to the tourists in English, it's such a great English converstaion opportunity, wow kids these days can't speak English, etc. They were actually there to make some speeches in English about our town, which was great, but this dude just would not leave these poor kids alone who are just sitting there looking uncomfortable while a random drunk man harasses them. I'd had enough of him harassing literal children so I told him he needs to stop, at which point he laughed in my face, said I'm ugly (the week before he asked me to take off my mask because he heard I was beautiful), and walked away to go shit talk me to another table of people ("omg can you beleive this English teacher told me to stop telling some children to speak English with these German people?!?"). The German people were also grateful I got him to go away and we spent the rest of the party talking in peace. Despite his earlier comments he came back at the end of the party and kept trying to get me to go to a supposed nijikai, inviting me to his house, and yelling "go home!! (Dojyorafish) go HOMEEEEEE!" over and over until one of the other party guests took him away to drive him home.
By far the most obnoxious ojiisan behavior I've seen. Clearly someone looking him in the eye and telling him to stop is something he hasn't dealt with before, especally from someone 50 years younger (and a lady no less! lol).
