First Time Encountering a Butsukari Otoko

Went to Japan recently and encountered these poor miserable men.

I recently went to Japan for leisure. During my stay I went to Yodobashi Ueno to buy a luggage scale. I came out and went to check the nearby gachapon machines. As I was browsing the gachas an old man strongly shoulder bumped me. In surprise (and in annoyance), I also threw my shoulder back at him. He glared at me for a few seconds to which I stared back, heard him say tch, and then he started to walk away.

It was so weird because I was out of the way, standing nearby the gachapon machines. I was really tempted to cuss the hell out of him but managed to keep my cool.

Going back to my hotel I asked the hotel staff about it and they told me all about it and there was an actual term for it. They told me to play it cool as these folks play the victim when you get aggressive or police would mainly side with them if you get into a fight (as I'm a foreigner).

Any similar experiences? Also best way to deal with these asshats?

  1. You know what is funny.

If you declare you will call the police after the initial bump or some altercation and they try to flee, that actually breaks the law and the police would search through cctv, track down his electronic pass records from the gates and then his house. Mainly because that is essentially fleeing from an officer. It stops being an only you and him matter.

These people rely that their plan leans on that you won’t do anything. If you do turn the tables on them, legally all they can do is scream, flail and plead for insanity. Or, try to run home only to find policemen at their door.

  2. Good for you for pushing back on him, he might think twice next time. May I ask, are you a small lady? That’s who these creeps usually target.

  3. Been living in Japan for 6 years, but haven’t experienced it yet. Go to Bulgaria for two weeks, a buffed dude in a bus smashes intentionally into my shoulder on his way out.
Assholes are everywhere, Japan is not exception.

  4. There’s another term you should know – “yatsuatari”. It means taking out your frustrations out on somebody else.

Yes, avoid cameras and hit them really hard so that they’ll think twice about trying their shit. I’ve elbowed enough idiots on the train that I’ve lost count. A really good target is just under the point of their jaw. There’s nothing quite like the sound of teeth smashing together to make your commute a happy one.

  5. I had some lil fuck do that to me in Ikebukuro. Just some asshole with brain damage. I’m a woman so I don’t know exactly what this mofo wanted to achieve with that. Fight me? lol
