Leaving a contract early (trying to find a middle ground with the amount of notice given).

I have agreed to another year at my private high school but (both fortunately/unfortunately) I have been offered a university position in another country from September that I'm definitely interested in taking (unfortunately, the hiring process was quite slow, and the offer was just brought to my attention).

I did give a head's up to the head teacher that there was the potential of me taking another position from September, and as such I was a bit uncertain about what to do. I was actually leaning towards taking a chance and not re-contracting, though they suggested that I could leave in the summer, as they had been experiencing some hiring issues (3 new positions, 1 person leaving, and some people backing out) and this would give them a bit of extra time (despite being outside of the regular hiring time). Being a bit burnt out and indecisive at the time, I ended up agreeing.

However, leaving at the end of July would be quite a rush for me, and definitely add a fair bit of stress. Outside of visa stuff, there's quite a bit of stuff I would need to do, plus I want to spend time with family and friends back in my home country before leaving (particularly my elderly mother). As such, I would like to propose me being finished from June (which would still allow nearly 2 months notice).

Just wondering if this seems like a reasonable approach. From the school's perspective, finishing right before the summer break would be ideal, though I know they would likely be able to manage fine (despite a month or so of slight inconvenience).
