Do Japanese Universities Require Original Certificates for Master’s Applications?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently in the process of applying for a master’s program at a university in Japan, and I have a question regarding the application requirements.

Do Japanese universities typically require the original certificates (such as my bachelor’s degree certificate and transcripts) upon applying, or will certified/notarized copies suffice for the initial application phase? I’m concerned about sending my original documents internationally due to the risk of loss or damage.

Additionally, if the originals are required later for verification, at what stage does this usually happen? Are there any specific tips or best practices for handling this aspect of the application process?
