I am returning to Japan at the end of the week (from USA), and as I do not have three vaccines,I understand that I need a PCR test. Aside from that, is there anything else that’s required? Also, can anyone give a breakdown of the steps they went through to get back in? (I’ve searched around, but can’t find a straightforward explanation)

I returned from Turkey a couple of months ago. It seems like the new regulations aren’t relevant to you so you’ll have to do the same as me.
Download the MySOS app. Get a negative PCR test before you board your flight. ~~Do a (free) antigen test at the airport when you arrive. Wait 30 mins for the results and~~ you can go via public transport.
If you got vaccinated in Japan, you can use your MyNumber info to add it to your MySOS app. I believe you will still have to quarantine at home for 3 days and check in on the app, but I’m not 100% sure on that.
EDIT: The process below is for travelers who’ve had a third vaccine.
You’re returning from the US. You do not need the PCR test anymore. I just got back from the US through Narita yesterday.
A day before your flight back, prepare the MySOS app. Download it, register your basic info, upload a pic of your passport, answer a questionnaire, agree to the oath, add photo proof of your 3rd vaccine. After you complete this process and register everything, the MySOS app will change color from red to green/blue. If something goes wrong in the process, you’ll be given a notice and the app will stay red.
When you check in to your flight, you’ll need to show the app color to the ground crew.
On arrival in Japan, you’ll be asked to show the app again. If you have blue, you’ll be given a piece of paper that will let you move to the area where they scan the code on your app. After that’s done, you can move on to immigration then baggage claim.
You should ask on the Return to Japan Support Group on Facebook.
Which color is USA currently? If it’s yellow you need a PCR or proof of 3 vaccines to get in.
I just came back from france last week, and although they checked my 3 vaccines since I had them, they didn’t for my wife, it’s a Blue country.
