Is JLPT resigtration a huge battle to get in?

Hey guys from what I’ve heard is that resigtration for JLPT goes really fast, how fast does registration usually end? Does it vary form place to place? should i be worried about the possiblility of not getting in? doesn’t seem to be many jlpt alternatives and none as accepted in japan as it is so. im a worry wart so i want to get in as soon as possible lol

(For context: I live in Georgia and there is a testing site near by)

(Note: why is it only once a year)

  1. Depends on the area. Bigger cities (NY, Boston) will fill up quickly. Plus the ongoing Corona pandemic means that seats are limited.

As to why it’s once or twice a year is dependent on the location. Probably registration numbers.

  2. It definitely is a big battle. I initially wanted to take one test every year to feel good about my progress, but considering how you take away spots from people who might actually need it for schools and jobs I refrained from registering. And the spots are basically immediately filled all the time. Not to mention the registering is terribly outdated – sending out physical letters with two passport photos in 2022? And apparently even with the possibility for it to be rejected because the slots are already full? What were they thinking establishing this?
That’s the situation in Germany at least.

  3. Depends enormously on the region and level. I was like 3 weeks late to register for N1 and still got a seat.

Also I believe demand was higher than usual now because many centers were closed for covid several exams in a row so a lot of people were desperate to finally take it.
