Hike Mt Fuji

Hello!
I’m looking to climb Mt Fuji this upcoming weeks in September and was wondering if it’s still “open” to the public. I was told it’s closed for everyone now unless you go with a guide. I have been in contact with a few guides on ‘Explore-share’ but it’s going slow. Anyone have tips / recommendations on who to contact or where to go?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Last year Mt Fuji got its first snow of the season on September 26th.

Hiking the mountain in the snow is more dangerous than hiking it in the summer season.

/According to Mountain Forecast, it isn’t forecasted to snow this weekend on the summit, but it will be 4C-6C.

  2. I did it a few years ago at the beginning of September. It’s pretty chilly towards the top and we were lucky there was still a couple of stations open. We were unlucky in that there was a typhoon the day before we started and there were no buses. If you don’t have to start at the bottom, you might make it up and down in one day, I guess.

  3. To clarify these responses, the stations are all closed by end of Aug or early Sep. From what I have read and been told, the mountain is still climbable, you will not be arrested or anything for climbing it in the off season. But you have to register with the Park Services and let them know that you are climbing it and you need to have experience with climbing. You will also be responsible for any fees if they have to rescue you. There are probably a dozen other roadblocks that they have up to discourage off season climbing, but like I said, it is possible. Just not recommended. FYI, I went up the last week of August a couple years ago.. it was freezing at the top. 6 hour climb, 5 min freezing our asses off.. cant wait to do it a third time.

Edit: to clarify “experience”.. like a real f-in mountain climber, like you could spend days alone in the alps pro climber. Not “I hiked the mist trail at Yosemite”.
