1. I empathize with them, but what do they realistically expect the government to do? Stealthily infiltrate the country and bring them back? Engage in a nuclear war with North Korea?

2. These people are long dead, either from famine in the 90s or killed to prevent them from leaving and telling their story.

   For the LDP to string along their families for decades and promise to bring them back is just sad. At the same time, it’s sad that the families let themselves be used as nationalist symbols by the LDP. That old couple that was trotted out every few months was just pathetic to see.
