What’s going on with alternate upgrades?

Has anyone been upgraded recently? Like, in the past week or two? It seems like it’s been quite some time since there’s been a decent amount of them. I get that there’s a lot going on, between placements and organizing departure, but it’s kinda odd that there hasn’t been a whole lot of word about upgrades since placements came out over a month ago.

  1. My guess is the consulates and CLAIR are focusing on getting the next few batches across. Also anyone who is going to decline their placement probably already did and had an alternate places in their position. Next big drops of people will probably be fall once people wash out of the program and/or break contract. I personally wasn’t upgraded til October of last year.

  2. No clue man, but you shouldn’t wait on JET for something that might not happen. I’m an alternate as well, but if a good opportunity comes around, I am not gonna say no because of JET

Upgrades usually come in batches, we’re past the placements and even if someone gets upgraded right now, they wouldn’t be able to depart with the current group so they’re most likely waiting until after this group heads out since that usually results in a few turnovers as well. But, I’m talking out of my ass because it’s JET and no one knows when or how they decide their upgrades.

  4. As a former Alternate who was never upgraded, don’t focus on it. Do something else and pretend you’re not going this year, while also being prepared so that you can leave anytime IF you need to.

  6. It’s almost like you are waiting for people **who are shortlisted** to get the cold feet in order to get in…

  8. As others have said, you’re best not thinking about it. I was an alternate last year and I just got on with my life under the assumption it probably wasn’t going to happen. Just start looking at your next application and what you can do in the meantime to improve on your application / interview for next intake. You’ll go crazy if you lurk the forums and group chats looking for clues about upgrades.
