Finally getting the chance to go back to Japan after waiting for three years, I’ll be staying for two months so I’m excited to have some conversations.
I’ve been learning Japanese on and off for around five years but I really struggle to recall vocabulary. I can read both kanas and some kanji, understand the basics of grammar, but whenever I study genki or vocabulary books / lessons, it seems to just dissipate from my memory as soon as it enters.
I would love to hear from anyone who has had the same problem.
Thank you for your time!

Do you just read the books/lessons? Or do you try applying the information? Passive learning doesn’t stick as well as active learning.
Flashcards daily has expanded my vocab pretty substantially, maybe worth considering.
Not a great in-a-month solution but [KameSame](https://www.kamesame.com/) is an SRS-based system which allows you to set your vocabulary and tests production and recognition independently
Just read the books you’d enjoy in Japanese. Vocabulary books are not very exciting 🙂
