I’m studying with a popular Anki deck (Core 2000, Vol 1), and it has the following sentence:
誰もその話を知らない
This is translated as “No one knows that story.”
Is this grammatically correct? It seems to be talking about nobody as if No One were the implied subject, rather than the story—am I correct in thinking this?
I am really new to Japanese so I don’t really understand the particle that expresses the relationships here. But from what I think I know, if I wanted to express that nobody knew a particular story we were (obviously) talking about, I would say:
その話は誰もを知らない
Is this grammatically correct?
What would a native speaker say?
Please help me to see my mistakes and correct my thinking. I’m really new to Japanese and I sincerely want to learn as much as possible here, especially more about speaking like a native. Thank you in advance for any advice, criticism, or answer to my questions 🙏🏼
