Oxford phonics 2 a reasonably week made phonics book, I think Oxford phonics 1 would be better for complete novices.
There is also the Lets Go series, but that is very short with very basic exercises and a number of CD based exercises.
Personally, having had to return to kindergarten teaching a little this year I think teaching phonics based on ‘Jolly Phonics’ with some practical writing / drawing tasks without a text book per se is more engaging. You need to do a lot of prep yourself, but along with the abcs writing can take a long time.
There are also numerous readers you can get in packs with a series of short stories, I think those would be a good compliment to a course.
I’m curious why you’re choosing to teach the kindergarten kids writing. My assumption is that they are absolute beginners… why are we teaching absolute beginners how to write? That seems quite a bit out of order.
Is this an International School with kids who already know English?
Like u/Ok_Comparison_8304, I’ve also used Oxford Phonics (for already fluent child speakers wanting to learn to read). It’s ok. It uses CDs but you can easily repurpose those activities.
I think what’s going to be more important is the picture books you decide to use to help encourage them to read during some form of free reading time.
