what is my best option?

Background: M/UK/23, Sociology BA.

I am seriously looking into moving to abroad to live and work for years, which is why like recommend for most places I decided to get a degree first and now here I am.

Looking for advice on my best course of action for moving to Japan. Many have recommended that its best to get your foot in the door as an ALT, as its much easier to find a job after being in Japan rather than from abroad. How true is this? I even got told I could work on a ski resort similarly but couldn’t find much information or reasoning why this would be a viable option?

The problem I’m having is; wondering if it’s better to try find work here until I get an opportunity in japan or work in japan until I find another opportunity in japan. The 3rd option is even saving up for a Japanese working holiday visa.

Many will ask what profession I’m currently trying to get into, which as you might have guessed from the sociology degree, I haven’t actually decided yet which is why I don’t mind working as an ALT till I figure it out. (However main jobs seem to be: journalism, recruiting/hr, paralegal and community planner)

Any advise and recommendations are welcome, especially if anyone has been in a similar situation.

  1. It is completely untrue that ALTing is a way to “get your foot in the door” despite the fact that people (who tend to have zero experience with moving to Japan) repeat it ad nauseum.

It will be no easier for you to find a job once you arrive here than it will be for you in the UK now that visa reissuance has reopened. If you’re not qualified for a job from overseas, you won’t be qualified once you arrive here. If employers arent biting while you are overseas, they won’t bite once you get here.
