Do locks for inner double sliding wood doors exist?

Got a kid who is trying to get into everything and I need to lock a double sliding door. Are there locks for these doors? I don’t even know what to search under for such an item.

  1. You could probably get away with laying a stick down. Just enough to stop the door from opening, but make it impossible to get in.

  2. I had a sliding window with a good lock and you can probably find the parts at a hardware store if you are comfortable drilling a hole through one panel and partway into the other.

This lock is a peg which is threaded at the end. The peg slides through the outer panel and into the inner panel, then screws into a binder embedded there. When the lock is open, the peg hangs down from the outer panel (can’t remember how it’s held in place, but it does not separate from the panel).

Sorry for the incomprehensible description. I can’t find any pictures of this very simple device on Google (it probably has some name I don’t know). Maybe I can break into my old apartment and get a picture for you.

This lock is best because it goes through both door panels in the middle of the doorway, rather than being attached on the outside or to a wall on either side. It’s very durable and also keyless.

  3. I had a similar problem with my cat so I drilled a hole in the top and ‘locked’ the door with a chopstick.
