Q-tip offered in restroom at restaurant

In a restaurant we have been to several times, there is a single restroom for patrons. They offer mouthwash with small cups, individually wrapped toothpicks, and individually wrapped q-tips that have pink/purple color on one side. Can anyone explain what the q-tips are for?

  1. I would assume for your ears? There is sort of a culture of ear cleaning in Japan. Some places offer these kind of conveniences to give the guest a more pleasant experience so that they will come back.

  2. Those are chlamydia self-tests. You carefully insert the q-tip a few millimeters into your urethra; if the color changes to blue it means you’re positive.

Give it a try if you haven’t already, many people are totally unaware they’re carrying it and there can be complications if left untreated.
