Mobile carriers in the US are offering insane deals on iPhones -like $1000 off with a contract. Has anyone seen similar deals in Japan? (I don’t speak Japanese so it’s hard to investigate). Maybe we can all share the best deals!
I don’t know about iPhones in particular, because Apple products make me nauseous, but most carriers offer two-year contracts that waive the cost of phones.
Note that, although a law was passed barring the practice several years ago, they all discriminate based on the remaining time on your visa (which, in effect, also means they discriminate by the type of your visa).
Ie, it’s very painful to try to get your own phone as a new customer on a one-year work visa because you generally need *a year* remaining to qualify for a two year contract.
