Am I doing this right?

I have Japanese lessons every Thursday morning from a live tutor. He informed me a while back that his english is not quite all there yet. We go over study sheets(PDF) together and sometimes, it can be confusing because for example he sometimes jumps ahead to number 5 while I’m still on #3 or he is still on the last one. I’m wondering if the video call disconnects on his end where he has poor reception or is it me? I did try telling him that I was lost and didn’t know where we were at now and I don’t think he understood that, at least not quite. I’m not complaining of course. I’m just making sure I’m not missing something there. I get extremely nervous that I’m not doing something right. I try to help myself not sweat so much by thinking it must be that his english isn’t quite all there, it is late at night over there and he works long hours and has a whole lot on his plate, and/or he may be having some trouble with the connection. I get afraid sometimes that I’m lagging or making him work harder. I am on the Autism Spectrum so I may seem socially inept sometimes and don’t always pick up on nuances. Any advice?

I don’t think this is a problem with you.

    Ask him to slow down.

Talk slowly and clearly and smile and be friendly.

But if all that doesn’t work, you might need to shop for another tutor. The reason is, you need someone you can work with.

  2. If you’re not comfortable for whatever reason, then I’d say find another tutor. You’re the one paying and you don’t deserve to feel this way.
