Certified Translation for USCIS

Need to get certified translation of marriage certificate and birth certificate for USCIS purposes.

I found these translation templates on the US Embassy website: https://jp.usembassy.gov/passports/translation-templates/

Anyone have experience just using these, translating, and signing (certifying) yourself?

  1. I don’t think there’s such a thing as an “official certification” in Japan so I don’t see any issue here if you are bilingual. Better than paying some translation company to do it, who will probably just use those templates anyway lol

  2. You don’t have to professionally or officially certify the translation. I used the templates or made ones myself and just had a Japanese friend sign it, saying “I’m fluent in English and Japanese and did my best translating this”. I even signed some myself with a fake Japanese name when I couldn’t meet with my friend.

Edit: you can probably even sign it yourself but it looks a little better if you’re not doing your own translations. Idk why they even bother when they can translate it themselves at the embassy/consulate, or any middle schooler can use Google translate.
