Planning to enroll in Sophia University for 2022…

Hello, I’m planning to enroll in Sophia University’s English-taught graduate programs and I’m vacillating between Global Studies, Green Science and Engineering, and Global Environmental Studies. So, I would like to inquire to Sophians in this thread if there are any:

1.) What kind of career would Global Studies / Global Environmental Studies entail? Like realistically speaking with that degree from Sophia (if possible working in Japan)

2.) I have no background in Engineering, can I still enroll in GSE? Will the program be teaching someone from scratch with prerequisite courses, like Introduction to Engineering or Engineering 101 for instance.

3.) If you are a student at Sophia with that major, can you share your experiences? I’m particularly curious in the academics and technical aspects, e.g., work load, the professors, quality of courses, acceptance rate in the major, is it all textbook stuff or there are practical studies too like field / volunteering work?
But if you can tell me more about the university’s student culture and life I would be grateful! For example:
* Work-life balance
* International student body and organizations
* Life as an international student in Sophia
* Percentage of graduate students in uni clubs
* Finding a job as an international student
* High paying jobs as an international student (teaching English is 👍🏻)
* General living expenses (food, shelter, recreation)

TIA🙏🏻🎌

P.S. I’m capable of survival 日本語, 日常会話も大丈夫👌🏻 Kanji is the bane of me though…

  1. Hey Leo, I hate to be a downer but you’re probably not gonna get into Japan in the first place for this to be relevant to you….

    I got accepted into Sophia’s Global Studies program for fall 2021, but had to pass on it due to the tight border. Now with omicron and Japan taking every opportunity to stay closed, you aren’t gonna get in spring 2022.
