Amazon Japan Protection Plan – Is it Worth It?

About to drop 20man+ on a Sharp Drum style Washer/Dryer. Only a 1 year manufacture warranty.

How is the Amazon Protection plan, which seems to add an additional 4 years of warranty? The purchase would also be made using an Amazon credit card, for what it is worth.

(I cannot directly link it, but you can search 洗濯機 5年 長期保証 (自然故障・不具合に対応 / 対象製品税込価格 195,000円~199,999円))- **Cost 10,000 Yen ish.**

  1. Japanese washer/dryer combos have a notoriously high failure rate. All of ours have needed multiple repairs. Get the protection plan.

  2. My Sharp washer/dryer needed a repair two months in lol. It took them two whole weeks to send someone in to repair it, so not the best experience, but still happy it was free

  3. We have one from Sharp washer/dryer for over 10 years and still works great. We did have to change the heat pump for the drying a couple of years ago for a bit over 20000yen but that is helping extend its lifetime. Keep cleaning the filters routinely and that should also help to extend its lifetime.

  4. I’d say get it – those combo units are probably the most unreliable large appliance many will purchase. Ours has been working for 7 years, but it spat out three fatal error codes in that time.

  5. The warranty is not through Amazon, they’re just selling a 3rd party protection plan. If you want the actual specifics you can visit the insurer’s website and see them, but I’ve found most extended warranty repairs to not be much of a problem here.

  6. I can’t speak for that warranty in particular but please get extended warranty. I bought a Toshiba Zaboon and it broke within 3 months, the repairman came after two weeks and there is now some grinding sound appearing too…I expect more issues in the future
