IT engineers in Japan, How much do you make per month?

As title, i just came here last month after accepting an annual 680000 salary.
I have 8 years experience in this field. Working for Sony as a consultant to improve their system. Is it too cheap?

  1. Totally depends on the skills and job role. If you’re in customer support, pay is gonna be less and if you’re in back end, infra engineering pay is gonna be more.

My company employs ppl to test software on annual salary of 4.5 mil where software engineers get paid more.

  2. 6.8mil is a pretty good salary in Japan. So long as your rent isn’t crazy expensive you can generally live without worry, splurge a bit here and there, and even save a bit.

  3. 680,000 yen gross anual salary is kind of low. I’m just assuming that’s what you meant, since you didn’t care enough to specify.

I mean, you wrote no comma separator, no currency, no time period, whether it’s before or after taxes, so we don’t know what was going on in your head when you posted.

  4. 6.8M is higher than the average salary in Japan, but not particularly high for IT. With 8 YOE, I think you should try applying to a foreign company, or a “new style” Japanese company (Mercari, SmartNews, PayPay…).

  5. I make 4.5M and it’s my first job. Japanese companies don’t pay well usually. I’m switching to a foreign company in a few months for more than double what I make now
