How to cancel national health insurance?

I enrolled in national health insurance, but about two weeks later I got my social insurance card. For national insurance, I received a card printed on paper (not a physical card) along with 8 payment slips.
6 of them are ¥1500. One with ¥2060 and another one with ¥11060.

Now I want to cancel my national health insurance. It is being only like one month since I enrolled for it. I remember that they mentioned that I could send a letter in the post to cancel it or something. But I’m not exactly sure how-to, and how much I’d have to pay. I’m registered at Setagaya ward.

  1. You need to be enrolled in NHI or health insurance from your employer. When your employer enrolls you, they’ll handle the paperwork for you.
Not sure what you mean by social insurance card.

  2. If you have your shakaihoken card….then go to your city office and tell them you dont need nhi anymore …

Pension is dealt with automatically so you dont have to do anything with that

  3. In case your company didn’t do it for you, just go to the City Hall and search for the Health Insurance department.

  4. I did that last month in the city hall. It only took 5 minutes to cancel. Don’t forget to bring back those payment slips (or bring everything in the envelop), national health insurance card and your company insurance card.
