So,
I’m planning to apply for the WHV but my passport is set to expire between getting the visa and departing.
I can’t renew it before applying as my Country has long delays, and I can’t wait to apply because I’m about to turn 31 dammit.
So, Japanese embassy told me to basically call ISA and ask, which I’m going to do in few hours.
Apparently from their point of view, the only problem would be at arrival so ISA is in charge of that.
But I still want to know if someone else had the same problem, and what happened.
Especially if you had to deal with the whole ERFS nonsense, which also requires a scan of the passport.

Generally speaking as long as you retain the old passport (And bring it with you!) you *should* be fine.
Obviously it’s going to be much simpler to renew it before you get the visa, but if you can’t, it’s not the end of the world.
