One Day Moving to Japan

Me and my fiancé have discussed moving out of the country and settled on Japan. We recently were trying to look into things and saw that owning a house can be quite difficult if not impossible if you do not have permanent residency which takes 10 years. How true is this and where can I look into more information on this topic?

Additionally we would rent however we have quite a few pets which makes that impossible from my understanding.

I plan on finishing my degree within a few years here in the states in accounting and get my CPA to make getting my work visa possible so this move wouldn’t be happening until I at least finish that.

We wanted to know how much we should save for this event (planning on moving to Tokyo, specifically where we haven’t decided) and if Japan has any similar websites to realtor or Zillow for looking at places to live. Most of the websites I’ve looked at only show apartment buildings.

I was also wondering if this would be a difficult or impossible thing to go after. I’m currently 27 turning 28 years old I’m not super old but it feels that way when making life altering changes especially since I need to look ahead to when we will be doing this, so I’d be older than I currently am. How old were you when you moved to Japan? I think knowing some other people are in the same boat as me would put my anxiety at ease.

It has been my dream to live in Japan for a very long time so the fact we actually talked about it and decided on this happening has made me very excited.

  1. You can buy a house whenever you want, getting a mortgage is what you’d need PR for. Regarding pets, read the wiki on the subreddit. And yes, there are websites that show houses for rent, honestly, look a little harder.

As for your other concerns, everyone’s situation is different. I’ve known people that moved here in their forties and are doing great, most people I know who moved here in their twenties have left the country by now.
