Frankly, I have a hard time understanding why they took on so much debt to begin with. Higher education in Japan is not that expensive. 4 million yen of debt means that they borrowed to pay almost all tuition for all 4 years. Perhaps the schools need Financial Aid office to give better guidance to students. Need based aid is available.
Even so if people end up unemployed after college then there is no way to post this debt. Perhaps they should just declare bankruptcy. That would be far better than unplayable debt.
