Just got my placement and I’ll be in Kunitachi (I have previously stayed in this area and loved it so I plan on getting my apartment here as well). I was wondering what you can get for 75,000 yen/month rent in this area? Also wondering if there are any current JETs in this area and how much they pay for rent. Thanks!

Hey, I studied abroad in Tokyo and lived in Tachikawa, so it has a special place in my heart too. For around 75k a month I’d say you’re looking at a 1K or 1DK. Might be worth checking out https://realestate.co.jp/en/rent/tokyo/tachikawa
It’ll give you a better idea. You could also look into Fuchu and Tama to see if you can get a little more for the rent.
I’m also headed to Japan on JET this year 😊 I requested Tokyo or Saitama but got rural Yamaguchi. It seems beautiful and luckily the rent is super cheap. I’ll be getting a 1K even though it’s inaka!
Good luck with finding somewhere!
I also got my placement and will be teaching in Tachikawa!
Curious about the area (things to do, notable aspects, etc.) and particularly if people have recommendations on where to live–right now I’m thinking somewhere along the Chuo Line between Tachikawa and Shinjuku, so it’ll be not too hard to get to school or downtown, but I have no frame of reference for what areas are nice, what places might have a few more English-speakers, etc.
Thanks in advance!
Check some rental sites like suumo or homes.jp and browse around and see for yourself
Ex-JET living in Hino here – as long as you’re happy to walk a bit to the station getting a decent apartment for 75k will be easy in the area.
Tachikawa is the popular area right now so a station beyond (NishiTachikawa or Hino) will get you more value for your money.balueget
Hey! I currently live in Tachikawa and absolutely LOVE it. Kunitachi is so lovely too! I’ve lived in 2 sharehouses during my time here. The first was 73,000JPY a month with all utilities included and furnished. It was a 10-minute walk to Tachikawa Station, super convenient! The second place I lived in (only because the first shut down due to a lack of foreign tenants from covid) was 64,400JPY a month, again utilities included and furnished. It’s a 15-minute walk to Tachikawa Station. So the closer to the station the pricier it’ll be, but I would say 60,000-80,000JPY is pretty standard for around here.
Tachikawa has anything you could ever need within walking distance (restaurants! shopping malls! izakayas! giant park! ikea!), and Kunitachi is just one train stop away.
Feel free to message me if you have any questions!
I’m a JET in Kunitachi, been here since 2018. I moved two years ago, but my first apartment was just about 75,000 yen/month. It was a 1K in a fairly new building. I’m paying 93,000 now for a 1DK.
I Currently live in Tachikawa. Rent is about 67,400Â¥ there is so much nearby and Tachikawa station has so much. Also, Tachikawa station is a popular stop so most rapid trains to other parts of Tokyo are easy to get to in a short amount of time.
