Seems like a decent value to me – seven nigiri, one roll, salad and soup. I’m assuming it was all fresh? What is the price if you add up everything you got?

Decent deal considering that’s a premium looking roll. My favorite place has a 10 piece with basic roll and only soup or salad for 24. It would be 2.50 to add the miso. But I assume everything costs more in CA anyway.
Looks like a good deal if that salmon isn’t farmed (looks wild caught to me?). The jumbo scallop sushi also makes it worth it imho.

I pay $22 including tip and tax at my local all you can eat that also includes hot foods, the quality isnt as good as this though.

Worth the price, yes. Seems pretty standard pricing in CA though. ~$10-15 per specialty rolls and $4-$5 per two pieces of nigiri. Miso is either free or $2-$4 depending on the place. Wouldn’t go out of my way to eat there for a “special”.
It looks good, but there’s nothing really “special” about the price. $40 for a roll and some nigiri is pretty average.
If the quality and tastes good it’s not a bad value at all, and that looks pretty fu**ing amazing. Depends a bit on where in CA. I’m in a mid size northeast city and that might be a 20$ special here.
I’d pay about $20 on the low end, $25 high for this. The rolls look nice, miso is a good accompaniment, salad is always appreciated. I don’t live in California so $30, based on how expensive I’ve gathered things tend to be there, sounds pretty fair overall

Personally for that money I d expect a japanese chef. And not this mess with way too much sauce on top. Maybe thats just me.
You can’t find that in Japan. But in the US in a big city, I’d expect to pay $20 after tip/tax for all that at most

Meh value I suppose, especially since you also have to pay massive tax and tip in the US.
I wouldn’t really consider paying 3+ USD for a piece of Nigiri sushi a good deal, and definitely not paying 2 USD per piece of the roll on the right.

Would be about $17 here in the midwest, but our sushi sucks compared to home on the east coast.

Looks pretty fair for $30 in California, including the extras. Nothing too pricey in the fish selection, but quality looks strong-to-acceptable.

Sushi is like most expensive cuisine so according to sushi standards thats fine price in CA.
