I’ve made a bank transaction to the an old bank account, what do I do?

I’ve sent my friend a bit of money but it turns out that he changed his bank details and didn’t inform me. I’ve used yucho direct to send the money. Does anyone know what will happen to the money? Will they automatically return the money as the account should be closed, or should I contact them?

  1. If the account doesn’t exist, the money will be returned to you, but you won’t get the fee back.

If the account exists and your wire transfer has been accepted, you need to ask your bank to start the refund process. HOwever,if the owner of the account on the other side refuses to do so, you may need to take it to court. The hardest part of suing is you need to find out the name and address of the owner of the account. Without it, you cannot sue anyone and the other bank is very unlikely to disclose it for privacy reasons.

Have you heard the news about a town sued an account owner refusing to return the covid payment sent to him by mistake. THe same thing could happen if the thing didn’t go well.
