I recently bought a car and am looking at optional car insurance. Kakaku.com’s bulk insurance quote system has been my first stop, but I’m stuck at the license color question.
I’ve been here for about two months so I’m still on my IDP and not a Japanese license yet. I’ve been driving for over 10 years and have never been in an accident, but that was all in the US and I figure that doesn’t mean anything here. They don’t have an option for IDP, but I doubt I can say my license is gold color.
What color should I say I have?
What does getting online insurance this way actually entail?
What are common company choices here on r/japanlife? Especially outside of Tokyo (I’m in Tohoku/Iwate)…if that matters as much as it would in the US.
If anyone wants to recommend me something: I’m 33 and need unlimited coverage for the other party and others’ property, but I don’t need anything for myself or my car or whatever else and like to keep my premium as cheap as possible.

The method (and ability) for enrollment will vary wil the insurance provider. For example this is what Sompo Japan says:

You will probably have to contact your preferred provider to see what their specific requirements are.
