Should I be worried?

I moved to a first floor apartment in a new city last month after living Japan for four years. Everything is mostly going fine, but I found a huge ass roughly 2 inch long dead cockroach in my cabinet about an hour ago. Some of it’s guts had spewed out of it’s body like it had been smashed, but I don’t remember smashing it. Anyway, I cleaned it up and flushed it down the toilet. I keep my apartment very clean and this is a relatively new building. This is the first time I’ve had any insect larger than a fly in my apartment. Should I be worried about this?

  1. Maybe not. I think it is normal. We have occational visitors like that and we left one in front of the door dead so others wont try to go in. Serve as a warning for them. Lol. But yea it should be normal.

  2. Single big one mean it’s come in from outside. Lots of small ones mean they’re breeding in your apartment.

  3. I’m crazy about cleanliness, which takes care of maybe 70% of the work. I also let spiders roam around, which take care of the remaining 30%. Haven’t seen one since I moved to my apartment.

  4. Adult cockroaches will die off soon enough for winter. The little fuckers (nymphs) can hibernate over winter, so are more stubborn. Cockroach hotels work well.

  5. Don’t worry. The rats killed it for you.

I saw a hornet killing a baby bird today. Japan has some nasty creatures. Nothing to worry excessively about.
