Best program for studying?

Hello,

I started studying Japanese about a year ago and got about 3 months in on a daily study routine and fell off for a few months due to busy life and schedule.

I decided yesterday to reopen my program and start over. I forgot everything but the core basics. I’m going through busuu for a study course.

I’m about to have to reup my subscription to them for the language and wonder if anyone has had good experience using it/another program before I invest my time in it again.

I’m just starting over from square one for lessons to get myself back into the groove, I was getting frustrated at not knowing stuff I’ve learned before. But I digress, that’s on me.

Any advice would be welcomed!

  1. I personally recommend genki and the workbook. I try to stay from apps because of other distractions on the phone. Do one hour in the morning, evening, or whenever convenient. Set your phone aside and don’t look at in an hour. You should be able to learn grammar and apply it after that hour. Rinse and repeat until the book is done. Then use the app to learn the grammar on your phone during the day or on the shitter.

  2. I can’t recommend busuu anymore. The first lessons were fine but recently I’ve been getting ones that couldn’t be done (and it won’t let you skip them). There are 3 word with translations to connect and it won’t register the right ones which is really frustrating.
I bought the subscription for two years and really regret it.

If you really want an app and don’t want textbooks Lingodeer and Human Japanese are far better (at least from what I have seen so far).
There’s also Tae Kim’s Guide which is basically a textbook as an app.
