Distinguishing Japanese from Chinese when Hiragana and Katakana are not present

I’ve just been curious as I’m not very far into my studies. I’ve noticed some brand names are written in just Kanji. Is there any way to distinguish them from Chinese characters? Sorry if this question is rather dumb, thanks in advance!

  1. sometimes yes sometimes no. chinese often uses different characters, or different versions of characters. it’s possible to make a brand name that’s identical in both, but it isn’t automatically identical.

  2. If you’re comparing Mandarin to Japanese you can tell them apart (most of the time) by the fact Mandarin uses simplified Chinese that are not used in Japanese
