Moving to Japan Schooling Advice

Hey all,
I plan to move to Japan in the future. At the moment I’m studying for the MEXT scholarship exam however I’ve hit a plateau and am just juggling options to make my dream a reality.

I’ve been to a language school in Japan in the past but only for a month.

Living in Japan long term, are you able to achieve this from going to a language school? Are you more likely to have a life in Japan if you have a bachelors degree?

Are language schools worth it? Or are you better off learning by yourself and taking JLPT?

Thank you.

  1. I’ve been investigating and if you want to search for some long term thing you join a vocational school and you’ll probably find a job right after your graduation (91% of chance for what I’ve investigated)

Not by itself no. Language school does not give you any credentials or experience that would be useful towards getting a visa.

A bachelor’s degree is generally the baseline requirement for most work oriented visas. If you want to live in Japan long tern, you’ll need a job and a degree.

Depends on you. There is definitely value in structured lessons and being able to interact with qualified instructors. Folks who can catch your mistakes and help you correct them before they become habits. But it’s not the only way to learn the language.

  3. I’m in a school in Tama, the routine is pretty heavy. Most of the senpais are going to senmon gakko after graduation. Worth it?… Good question haha
