  1. Hey guys! It’s a bit of self promotion, but I figured since you all appreciate Japanese food, this may be a good place to post!

I’m a bilingual American illustrator who has been in Japan for six years. My speciality is watercolor food. I’ve done work for big names brands like Meiji and Calpis, illustrated for magazine covers and spreads, and show in the occasional gallery here in Tokyo.

I try to post two new illustrations to Instagram a week, and I often host IG Lives with fellow food illustrators where we record our whole process live. If you know anybody that could use my services, please drop my name! Otherwise, come check out my Instagram at…

  2. I just realized I’ve watched you on TV a few times but I never realized you were an illustrator. I love your art style, definitely giving you a follow 🙂

  3. Ever think about putting together a book?

I really like this style. It has the right balance of abstraction and realism. For example, I recently picked up copies of Tokyo at Night and Tokyo Storefronts. ([link](https://www.amazon.co.jp/東京夜行-マテウシュ・ウルバノヴィチ作品集II-マテウシュ・ウルバノヴィチ/dp/4844368567/) (not sure what Reddit does with kana in Amazon jp links). These are more architectural/ cityscapes but I’m a total foodie. I would have bought a food version in a heartbeat.

  4. Beautiful work! I followed you on Instagram and am so hungry after scrolling through your feed!

  5. Following and I hope you get a lot of work or commission from this 🙂 It’s so beautiful and I know what most of these dishes are. Awesome

  6. How were you able to get your foot in the door with doing work for these big name brands? I’m also a gaijin artist so it’s fascinating to me to hear about how you got started!

  7. Wow! On the upper right painting the white spots on the sauce as highlights it almost looks like a real photo edited to water color!

  8. Seriously thought that katsu was real for a second, had to look real close on my screen lol. These are amazing and so is your Instagram — following! I live in the US, do you ship commission art outside of Japan?

  9. Love your art work. I’ve always really enjoy Japanese food in animated films now I’ve found an artist that specializes in food drawing. Did I mention I love your art?

    Keep up the good work!!

  10. Wow!! I started watercolouring for fun. It’s not as easy as it looks. This looks amazing!!
