How do you say male and female for electrical components?

I was looking for a female fuse and talking to someone on the phone and I think he had an aneurysm when I tried to explain that it’s not a normal “male” fuse, it’s “female”.

The store clerk is probably dead now,

ご愁傷様.

And my car has a key jammed into the fuse hole to get me home.

  1. It’s also male and female, using the words also used for animals’ gender:

    雄（おす）プラグ
    雌（メス）コンセント

    Edit: Brain fart because your question put “male and female” in my head.

    There is another way:

    凸（でこ）プラグ
    凹（ぼこ）コンセント

    A quick scan on Amazon shows the 雄雌 terminology being used more than 凸凹.
    You’ll need a native speaker to explain whatever nuance may accrue to the two.
