I think I had hear somewhere that there are some cities in Japan, or one in particular, where you will find that people communicate in more blunt, direct fashion, rather than the infamously indirect/cryptic manner of people from say Kyoto. Would this place happen to have been Osaka? That is the name I thought I had remembered in association with this. Thanks for any help, just trying to plan a trip to japan and hoping for any information on where might be the easiest to get along socially as someone with limited skills in the language/social grammar.

I think this would indeed be Osaka!
I remember my host family telling me that people from Osaka are really blunt or rude. And that they talk super fast.
But Be aware that “more ‘blunt, direct’” still might not be nearly as direct as you expect. It’s still a bit of a cultural trend so indirectness will be found wherever you go. More of a degree of directness thing than a direct vs indirect thing
