Visit Japan Web Disembarkation Info Question

Hi all,

I’m moving to Japan tomorrow for school, and I have some questions about filling in the disembarkation information on Visit Japan Web. I have been accepted to my school for two years, but my student visa is for 1 year and 3 months. The school said they would apply for a visa extension when the time comes, so I am a bit confused as to what to put as my intended length of stay on the Visit Japan Web form. Do any of you have experience with this, and did your visa extensions change the disembarkation date on your passport? Thanks!

  1. If you’re intending to stay in Japan for two years then use that as your intended length of stay on the disembarkation form. You’ll get a status of residence that is good for one year and you’ll extend it a year from now to cover you until you graduate.

Once you arrive in Japan you will be given a residence card. Your status of residence, eg your right to remain in Japan, is tied to this card and not to your passport.
