Is 6 million yen CTC good for living in Tokyo ?

Hi, I’m currently passing out of my masters and I have got couple of offers for moving to Japan. For Tokyo, the pay is around 6 million yen CTC. Gross pay is around 5.5 Million Yen. I have heard Tokyo is the costliest city in the world and I’m completely unaware whether this is a good offer or not considering Tokyo standards.
P.S. – I am a bachelor and would be moving alone.

Also can you guys guide me in things I should consider before moving to Japan.

I’m unfamiliar with the acronym CTC, but an annual salary of JPY6,000,000 is not bad. Especially if you’ve not got any professional experience.

    >I have heard Tokyo is the costliest city in the world

Such clickbait type articles wildly overestimate the cost of living in Tokyo. Don’t forget the average household income in Japan is something like JPY4,500,000 so you’d already be above average in that regard.

  2. Tokyo is not the most expensive city in the world, not by a long shot.
And 6 million living by yourself should be fine. You won’t be living like a king, but you should be doing OK.
6-7 mil is about average salary for a salary-man living in Tokyo FYI (don’t listen to that other guy)

  3. Master fresh grad 6 million total comp is excellent. You will have no problems especially as a single person with no kids. Most people start at like 3-4 or 4-5 million fresh out of uni in Japan (bachelor, master)

  4. depends on your lifestyle.

you can either live in 50k sharehouse(utilities included) or 150k apartment(utilities not included).

Since train fare is covered, the only difference is commute time.

And depends on your entertainment or hobby, buying new pc games monthly wont exceed 10k per month, but if you like to go out drinking, maybe 5000k per week. Dating maybe 10k per date. If you like to travel, it will cost more (I spent 20k last weekend to go to kawaguchiko).

for dinner either you eat at restaurant for 1500 yen or get some bento for 500 yen. the differences are already 20k per month.

Well my average expense is 150k yen. so you can do the math.

  5. Yes, it is quite good. As other people said maybe it will not be a life of luxury (like eating omakase sushi from the fanciest Minato places everyday 😅) but you will be fine.

In my opinion, if you can keep your rent under ¥100,000 you will have plenty of money
