So like the title says, I just wanted a place to put my thoughts out. I don’t really want tips/advice or “have you tried…”.
TLDR: I’ve been looking for a job for 3 months-ish. And in short summary, no luck.
I’ve applied to English teaching/tutoring jobs, social media/marketing (that’s my background), and research/data analyst. It’s always the same message of “we sorry to inform you…”
All my friends and family is saying you just need one job to say “yes.” And I was so close to having a translation job (in the end I didn’t pass the trail test).
It’s sometimes discouraging to hear all the rejections and I feel like I’m running out of options. Maybe it’s the way I present myself during interviews or I’m really bad at interviews. I really don’t know.
I really do want to keep living in Japan. I’ve never felt more safe and more happy than before. For sure going back to America would put me in a depressive mood.
I know I could always come back on a tourist visa since Japan is finally opening back up, but it’s the whole process of moving my things that I already have here back and forth (I know I’m just being lazy)
So I guess if I can’t a find job around December, guess I’ll be leaving. So I’m the mean time, I’ll be continue to keep searching and trying to have fun with the time I have left.

It took me 6 months to find a job that last time i was looking for one here in Japan, albeit in a completely different field than yours. It’s not just about you, but you need luck for a relevant position to open up at the same time.
We’re in the same boat. Been looking for a job for a couple of months now with close to 0 luck. It’s either rejection emails or my application is just completely ignored by the company/recruiters. I did get an interview and an offer once, but I decided to turn it down because judging by the working conditions, the company looks black as f*ck lol. I don’t have much to say but hang in there!! 🫶🏼
Last time I was job searching I applied to 20+ places, and of the ones that bothered to send me a letter of rejection, several of them waited 4 months to do so. I mean okay, getting a letter is maybe better than not getting a letter, but if I haven’t been contacted after 1 or 2 months, it’s safe to say I’m not on the short list.
You’re eventually going to be spotted by a company that is looking for your exact background and skillset. It’s important to keep putting yourself out there and doing interviews. At the same time you should use the interviews as a learning experience to determine what works and what doesn’t.
Don’t get discouraged. Keep interviewing. Many places will reject you over nonsense out of your control. Don’t spend too much time trying to put yourself in the minds of the people interviewing you.
Make sure you have an online presence via your own website, LinkedIn profile, or published content. Interviewers may want supplemental information about you.
Good luck. Interviewing fucking sucks, but don’t slow down. Keep at it.
